The House of the Good Shepherd Women’s Board offers ongoing support and financial assistance for the services and programs of the House of the Good Shepherd.

House of the Good Shepherd is a safe haven and comprehensive recovery program for battered women and their children which seeks to end the cycle of domestic violence in families.

The program is based on intensive group and individual counseling and education, and helps violence survivors to heal, regain their dignity and become self-sufficient.

The program generally is three and one-half months long, and includes a two-week orientation period.   There is an in-house Learning Center where women work on their education and job goals, a child care center, and an Aftercare Program that promotes long-term recovery

Our unusual and highly effective residential program consists of private individual apartments for fourteen families, who usually have from one to six or more children each.

Families practice independent living skills and learn to restructure their relationships.  This independent style of living better prepares the residents for life as a healthy family outside the shelter.

The House of the Good Shepherd has an outstanding record:

  • 91% of the women who complete our program leave their abuser and go on to make a productive life for themselves and their children.
  • Every dollar the women’s board collects goes directly to the House
  • 86% of all funds donated to the House from all sources are used for the programs and direct care of the women and children.
  • The Women’s Board provides the single largest contribution toward the expenses necessary to operate the home.

Mission Statement:  The House of the Good Shepherd serves with love and compassion women and children affected by domestic violence by offering a safe place with opportunities for emotional, educational and spiritual growth, giving hope and continued support for a better future.

The House is a 501(c)(3) organization.
